The Senior Department of Wan Jie Zhao Yang School includes 18 classes, comprised of 720 students. The teaching building has a construction area of more than 5000 square meters. It lies in the center of the school and is near to the Experiment, Science and Technology, and library buildings. The senior students' dormitory has a construction area of over 1000 square meters and the high school dining-hall has more than 4000 square meters, both of which lie to the north of the teaching building. In the center of the buildings there are squares, grasslands, sculptures, and long corridors. These things provide our school with a high-class teaching environment. In each classroom there are multimedia projectors. Each student and teacher has a personal computer, enabling the use of the Internet. Internet is also provided in the reading-room and even in the dormitory. To develop first-rate students and prepare them for the demands of the new century, our school creates predominate conditions for them.
Our school ideology is to survive in the competing society depending on high teaching quality, good credit and strong character. Our aim is to fulfill the national teaching plan on the basis of promoting student potential, individuality and development in special fields.
The general principal Mr. Yang Yunde is the part-time headmaster of the Senior Department. Vice headmistress Shao Min is from Fujian in Liaoning province. She is 45 years old and has an undergraduate degree .She worked as Secretary of the Branch of the Party beginning in 1991 before becoming a headmistress. She possesses enriched experience in managing a school. She loves her students and teaching career very much. No matter which school she has been in, she has made many excellent achievements, and was reported on and praised in public and invited to give speeches over 20 times in the whole city. She has received countless credits for her moral devotion to education. The government has decided to call on people to learn from our model headmistress Shao Min.
The Senior Department retains excellent teachers from all over the world in earnest. The chosen teachers are all below 40 years and have undergraduate degrees. 95% of them have been greatly honored as excellent teachers, head teachers or teaching backbones. At the same time we retained several foreign teachers to teach oral English to emphasize the students' oral training.
The principle of recruiting students is to choose those who are better qualified. Excellent students are at all times welcomed. The students who rank in the top 50 places of the High School Entrance Examination in Zibo City may study here free of charge. Those who get 1000 places need not pay for tuition. Many of excellent students prefer to come to our department to accept high quality education.
In order to develop students' ability in every aspect and enable them to specialize in a certain field, the Senior Department insists primarily on moral education. We carry it pertinently, effectively and actively. We combine moral, behavioral and psychological education to promote student moral character in order to strengthen their sense of duty to their country, society, families and others. As to course reformation, we optimize the subject course, extend class activity, increase the living course and develop the environmental course. On the basis of fulfilling study content, we emphasize the potential of the other aspects. In classroom teaching, we guide students to think actively and to have "research study". We teach students according to their different ability in the form of "small class". We supply the students with basic necessity of life and optimize living management. Our school makes good use of its credit and relationship with Wan Jie Company, and cooperates with renowned schools abroad in America, Australia, Canada, and other countries. This summer the first teachers and students have gone to Cambridge University in England to study and communicate. For the new students who came in 2002, our school has begun a new teaching system called Planet English, which was introduced in Australia. After one years' time of study, the students' oral and listening ability will equal to Ielts 6.0-7.5.
For more than a year, the work of our Senior Department has received great achievements. The students not only have developed themselves in morality but have also gained much recognition and praises. In the final exam organized by Zibo City, our students' test results were the best. Wang Xiaoguang received the first prize in the Seventh National Teenagers Computer Information Olympic Competition, and his program designs received the first in the Primary and High School TV performances. The short play Cinderella enacted in English by 13 of our students received second place. The score was only 0.01 less than first place. Some students received fully developed literature, art, music, physical education, and other special aspects. We owe our satisfying results to leaders' support, advanced guidance of excellent teachers, extraordinary environment, strict management, colorful extracurricular activities, and both teachers and students' cooperation.
