Jie Zhao Yang Junior Middle School has three grades,
comprised of 9 classes. It has been over one year since
it opened. As the head of General School, under the
guidance of Headmaster Li Zhenhua, its teachers sincerely
love and devote themselves to their work and the students.
They unite to help each other and are strict in their
work. Students learn to practice beneficial study habits
and build strong character, both in and outside the
classroom. Teachers take priority in carrying out diathesis
systematically, and specializing in foreign languages.
The school is progressively developing, and has received
outstanding achievements. The morality, quality of learning,
and living conditions of the students has been greatly
improved; consequently, each aspect of its environment
has received just appraisement.
Our department possesses the high level schoolyard environment and modern teaching instruments, which sets up the predominant condition of all the students trained here.
The school details various elaborate architectural designs including: its Experimental, Science and Technology, Art, and classroom buildings, library gymnasium, dining hall and dormitories. Its dimensions are magnificent with loneness environment and first-class establishments. All buildings are centrally air-conditioned, and establishments such as the swimming pools, outdoor ice rink, playing fields, track and playground are all constructed with high standard. The scenery includes murals and sculptures depicting modern originality, which serves to enrich the school ground atmosphere with humanistic spirit and theology.
Teaching equipment is allocated according to the best standards of the country. Each classroom contains multimedia; each teacher and student has a personal computer. They can browse and use meshwork resources on the World Wide Web. The students are able to look up any materials from their seats. The equipment of the Experimental and Science and Technology Buildings is modernized. It enables the students to grasp basic knowledge and increase their learning interest. The Art building, gymnasium other recreational places have created an environment for student relaxation and enjoyment. There are many kinds of books in the school library: books on astronomy, geography, literature, science, technology and basic teaching guidance materials.
Food, clothing, housing and other services are provided. Meals are supervised by a food specialist. Complimenting the three main course meals are three other meals in the morning, afternoon, and at bedtime. There is one meat dish, three vegetable dishes and soup. There are fruits, light refreshments and designated milk to pledge the students' nutrition. There is a high-grade washhouse and advanced laundering equipments, with workers specially assigned to them. Because both the teachers and students reside at the school, and many teachers are finely trained in psychology, students have the opportunity to foster proper living habits, learn ways to cope with hardships, and withstand hard work in order to provide self-support. Special doctors are in charge of student health. The school employs guards and professionals in charge of safety, providing transportation for vacations.
The students can stand out with the help of the school's renowned teachers. Persons of ability are the result of environment. If a person wishes to possess high ability, he must accept the high quality education of the teachers. It is difficult for a person to make great progress without good education and advice. It is often said: "Best apprentice comes from best teachers". The teachers in our Junior High School come from every part of the country. They are all graduates of universities. One third of them are high-ranking teachers, and their ages average below 40. Two thirds of them have taught for more than ten years. They have a rich educational background. Nearly 80 percent of the teachers are excellent and master-hands teachers whom are honored by the city and province educational department. A teaching group with a high diathesis will supply good foundation for the students' evolution. At the same time, we acquire foreign teachers to teach Oral English to strengthen the ability of the students' spoken English.
The headmaster Li Zhenhua is an expert who enjoys State Department Special allowance, a model worker of national education, the Century Hero, and a super- excellent teacher. He has given more than 400 speeches about Teachers' Morals and supervisory experiments, and has cast the characters of the general literature Red Candle. Shan Dong Yi Yuan Middle School used to be a poor school, but now it is a model school in our province. This school represented the worst Student Entrance Achievement in Yi Yuan County, but now it has become a remarkable educational junior school. Its progress has gradually reflected Mr. Li's brightness and painstaking effort. It has also pressed Mr. Li's courage and insight as a headmaster. People Daily reported his exciting matters and wrote, "The students dropped behind are moistened by love" and "The songs of Red Candle". It also published the commentary of The Headmaster is the Key, which has made great influence all over the country.
Another superexcellent teacher is Mr. Wang Jiatang who is a 38 year-old junior Chinese teacher. He is a researcher of Junior Language Research Class Research Center, the editor-in-chief of Composition Isochronous Thinking Training, wrote Learning and Teaching, and is a very famous Chinese teacher. Miss Liang Xuemei, 37 years old, compiles the test questions of Hei Longjian Province Senior Graduation Exam, is the backbone English teacher of this province, a model worker of English subject, and won the awards of English Exam and Superexcellent Counselor.
The teachers are not only outstanding educators, but also love their jobs and must meet strong demands. They stay at school all day and give their everlasting effort to assist the students. Every day, they arrive at school before the students awaken, and they leave school after the students go to bed, their workday lasting nearly 16 hours. Due to such working conditions they undergo much stress, but never complain or deplore, nor ever mention their hardship or weariness. The students see the teachers' undying spirit and respect their enduring commitment.
Only a few days ago the students were ill, and all the head teachers took care of them day and night. They actively did prophylactic treatment, cooked meals and gave medicine to the students, as they needed it. Mr. Wang Jiatang spent his money to take a taxi to Bo Shan to buy medicine; Mr. Hu Yubi had a terrible cold, yet he stayed at students' bedsides with great pains; Mr. Bi Yujun carried a sick boy to see a doctor; and at night, Mr. Gong Changlun went to visit the students. A student named Miao Xiaqing had a fever and had no appetite, but Miss Wang Xuejuan coddled eggs, cooked noodles and other delicious meals for her. During her illness she stayed in bed, so Miss Wang sat with her, helped her study, and told stories to her. After Miao's parents learned of this, they said excitedly: "'You took more care than us parents…it sets our heart at rest to let our child study in your school.'"
Our school has received high praises from student parents and as well as others. It is because it has many hard-working teachers who willingly give their love and utmost effort to the students.
If you want to know one's ability, you observe how they handle matters and interact with others. If a student lacks ability he or she doesn't care for others or society. Upon becoming an adult, this student may not be able to contribute to the well being of family and society, even though he or she may have received good grades. In order to develop the students in all fields, and gain the satisfaction of student families and society with our school, we place moral education first, educating the students in how to be an upright person and develop healthily. We value pertinence, practicality and forwardness. We strive to make education applied, agile and new. We pair the thought of transference with education of behavior, good behavior with good mentation, and make the students have strong burden to families, society, motherland, and to others.
During the beginning of this term we compiled a series of activities in order to make the students grow healthily, and to put entertainment into education. To strengthen education on daily behavior, we organized a Standard and Criterion Month. To cultivate the students' obedience to the rules of the school and mental and moral education, we organized the report of legal education, started "hand-in-hand" activities with the children in poverty-stricken mountain areas, and took part in the 'practical month and idiographic' activities, studying citizen's 20-character essential moral criterion. We've also invited some poverty-level students of Yi Yuan County and No. 1 Scholar Schools in Zibo City to an exam held at our junior middle school to introduce their hard-working experience and their successful studying methods. Also, we have developed 'star civilization dormitory' activity to boost student self-support.
During the "hand-in-hand" activity with the students from Yi Yuan County, our Junior Middle School benefited nearly 10,000 Yuan in all, of which over 3,000 came from the students. They also benefited more than 1,000 pieces or sets of stationary and daily-life necessities. They wrote to each other 1,000 times. From then on, the students knew concern, learned to study hard, and understood cherishment. It's hard to see complaining parents, unfinished work, and wasted meals.
We have devoted our undeniable effort. We have received sincere return. Different methods of moral education content have enabled the students to develop noble character. The students have made obvious progress in many things, such as their mental visage, studying habits, and supporting themselves in life.
There was a student by the name of Sun Xinbo. When he entered the school for the, he could neither do laundry, live by himself, nor tidy his dormitory. The life skills teacher taught him how to do it patiently on one hand. On the other hand the teacher often talked with him and encouraged him to be confident. Currently, Sun Xinbo not only knows how to do laundry and live by himself, but he also does well in tidying his dormitory. His bedroom has been awarded as a "Five-star Bedroom".
There was another student named Hu Libin. When he came into our school, he was in low spirits and hated studying. He did not have a good studying habit at all. He didn't understand his parents' reasoning either. After entering the school, his head teacher found that he was simple, honest and sincere. So he helped Hu Libin realize his opportunity, encouraging him to think of ways to make progress. Now Hu Libin readily does things for his parents actively when he has a 4-day holiday. What's more, he says to his parents, "'Don't be worried about me. I must study hard.'" He not only says so, but also does so. He listens to the teachers carefully in class, and asks the teachers to tutor him afterwards. Sometimes he falls asleep with a textbook in his hand because of his tiredness. His parents can't believe that their own child has become an enviably good child in such a short time.
Our Junior Middle School Branch stresses that the teaching aims are not only to make the students "learn knowledge" but also to make them "able to study knowledge". Teaching gives prominence to the teaching thought "Students are the main body. Teachers play a leading role." We focus on developing the students' individual specialty and adjusting teaching methods according to varying student mentality. Teachers go one-on-one with students, bringing great change to their study.
Our branch adopts the small-class system of teaching. Teachers have abundant vigor. They are able to understand and coach each individual student so they can mature both healthily and happily. This branch carries out a 3-year-teaching plan. The students spend three years completing the 'four years studying task'. Therefore, we insist both on students' healthy development and actual diathesis teaching systemically. All teachers cultivate the students' methods and their practical abilities. We insist on scientific research as the leading part and recur to modern educational means as the key. We create "excellent class teaching," the modern, practical reform of in-class teaching in order to increase teaching efficiency and accelerate to improve educational and teaching quality. We focus on using the modern educational means while teaching. We make courseware carefully; increase the capability of class knowledge. We strengthen the system and interest of knowledge, individual tutorship, and teach scientific methods. We teach students to be able to study actively instead of learn passively. We value cultivating student practical ability. We make good use of the school lab, Science and Technology building, the library, Art building, recreational fields, and other concourses to carry out the teaching activities. We do so not only to make the students consolidate their knowledge while using it, but also to increase student-studying interest.
As for excellent and well-grounded students, our branch helps them to eliminate their superiority and proud, self-content feelings. We help them perform self-examination and explore efficient learning methods actively. We also teach them to discover and research problems, learn to absorb and accumulate knowledge, learn transpiring and conversing thought, and cultivate their exploring and creative ability. For example, the students Wu Hui, Pan Yu, Wu Guangtao of Grade Two, and Zhang Rui, Jia Kaichao, Lei Yu, Miao Xia Qing of Grade Three, all have their own excellent studying methods and their results reflect this. But they are careless and fickle. They are satisfied with their mastery of their textbooks. And their mentality is not extensive. Their teachers grasp their characteristics to encourage them to explore bravely, to think over problems in many ways, and to lead them to conclude and summarize their studying methods on one hand. On the other hand the head teachers and the subject teachers cooperate together. They strengthen deep and extensive topical training to help the students develop their mentality.
After a year's efforts, Wu Hui and Zhang Rui have discovered a more scientific way of studying. And because their thoughts have widened and improved, they find it easier to study. Wu Guangtao and Jia Kaichao have abstained from the weakness of carelessness, flippancy, and narrow thought. Miao Xiaqing corrected the weakness of fear and low spirits in studying. Pan Yu and Lei Yu also rid bad habits of studying.
To those who fall behind others in studying, we try to find their virtues to encourage them, and help them make a studying plan and form a good habit so that they can mature well. In our teachers' eyes, there are no "bad" or students; we think every student has great potential. It is not responsible to divide students into degrees of character, and it is a failure for education. We are confident that all students can be schooled well.
We stress to teach the students according to their different individual diathesis. We help them one by one, and make good students better and help the difficult students to catch up with others. We stress teaching them the way of studying a particular thing and how to learn it. Our aim is to help them form good habits, captivating their interest in their lessons. Furthermore, we have well-educated teachers; thus, their classes are more efficient. So the teaching results of our department are steadily improving, as well as student diathesis.
In May of 2002, a test was held in Zibo for the junior students to complete a course in Biology and Geography. It was the first time for our department to attend an exam held in the city. For this test, our students had spent only one year finishing revising three years' course, but the results made us proud: the passing students of the two subjects were 100 percent, the average was 85.63; the excellent students in biology were 100 percent, and those with remarks better than 90 were 73.47 percent.
This October, our students took part in the "Chinese Children's English Match on TV, 2002". They studied hard and overcame many difficulties, and in the end, they received first place with excellent results and were honored with a Cup.
Due to the new ideas in managing a school, advanced teaching equipment, perfect management and well-educated teachers, our department has made great progress in teaching work and has gained high remarks from all circles. The mayor of Zibo Yian Qijun and the Vice Mayor Guan Mali have visited our department to instruct our work with many other leaders of teaching committees. They are very satisfied with our teaching and education. The leaders of the teaching department of Zibo come to listen to our lessons. They speak highly of our teachers; they say our teaching methods have moved to the front of time. 36 teachers of Yi Yuan experiment school came to listen to our lessons as well, exchanging their ideas. They marveled at our teaching level. One of them said: "'While listening to your lesson, it seems that you are joining the diathesis and testing education together perfectly, and I enjoyed it very much, but at the same time, you give me pressure.'
We have made some progress since school began, and although it is a good beginning, we dare not idle a little. We will keep on studying hard to improve ourselves. With the help of the good relations of Wan Jie Company from outside China, we will develop a multinational teaching course. According to the rules of our school, we strive to make our school first-class and internationally known. The teachers in Wan Jie Zhao Yang Junior Department love their work and their students, and devote themselves to their teaching. They function together and treat every student warmheartedly. We are certain that Wan Jie Zhao Yang Junior High School will be like the sun at noon, and it will yield a cradle of outstanding people for the new century.
